Mission Statement/History

Mission

We are the Islamic Community of the Salinas in cooperation with Muslim communities around California, our mission is to: Live our faith as a congregation in accordance to the teachings of the Quran and Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) as individuals and as a collective body, and to foster peace, justice and compassion for all within our Mosque, our local community and the world.

Community Milestones

1994: Islamic Community of Salinas is established by local Muslims with Friday prayers in a local motel room owned by one of the community.

2004: The community moved to a larger room at a local hotel to accommodate the growing Muslim community in the Salinas area.

2006: The community hired an Imam and moved to 333 Capitol St. as a rented space yet again to accommodate a growing Muslim community in the Salinas area.

2012: The Islamic Community of Salinas was blessed with the opportunity to purchase 35 West Market St. as a permanent location for the mosque.

2016: The community was blessed yet again with the opportunity to purchase the adjacent properties of 31 and 33 West Market St, which are adjacent to the mosque. 35 became the mosque’s men’s section, 33 became the women’s section and 31 became the location of the weekend Islamic school.
